About

Greetings! My name is Kevin Cave.

I have worked for numerous companies in the past, in various technical roles. I lived and worked in London for about 12 years, ending up as an IT Manager in the last job I had there, before moving to Japan with my Japanese wife and our son. I lived and worked in Japan for 6 years. We went through the Magnitude 9 earthquake in 2011 and we survived to tell the tale. A few months after that the company I was working for decided to close down the department I was in and I lost my job. I eventually decided, after not being successful in finding a new job, and also being wary of further disruption and risk to our health (we lived 33 miles from the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant), I decided it was best to move back home to my native Scotland.

My family and I have now established ourselves in a wee town called Fauldhouse, in which we enjoy living, and I decided to start out on the exciting journey of running my own business, hence Tickitech, established in August 2013.

I aim to serve my customers well, with the service they deserve, under the slogan “There are no problems. Only solutions!”

Testimonials

From previous employers…

Kevin has been working on the Cisco Failure programs since 2007 and worked with me since Jan 2010. On this Cisco FA program, he showed very high level of technical knowledge, profession and diligence which impressed me very much.

Kevin and I worked briefly in the technology department at The Salvage Association. As System Manager, I relied on my technical staff to keep the main systems and servers running for this world-wide operation. Kevin provided first class technical support and administration for the Unix servers that hosted the Oracle databases, and also excellent support on the Oracle systems themselves. The Salvage Association had an exceptional record for up-time on its servers and Kevin contributed to this achievement. Kevin is a very committed team player and, together with his extensive Unix knowledge is a first class engineer. I have no hesitation in recommending Kevin.

From customers…

“I had an ongoing problem with a slow laptop which kept freezing. Being a novice on a computer I was at a loss what to do about it. Then I met Kevin’s lovely wife Toco who said he would help me. He had a look at my laptop, and explained it so even I could understand. He fixed it really quickly and it’s been fine ever since. Would recommend his helpful service to everyone. Good to have someone local you can depend on!” – Beverley, Fauldhouse, August 2013.

Specialties

I primarily specialize in everything Linux and Unix, though my experience and knowledge is also extensive on Microsoft Windows and related technologies.

I have a sharp and investigative mind. Fault diagnosis is another talent. If I don’t immediately know something I’ll go and do the research necessary to fully understand it, so if you ask me a question I don’t know immediately know the answer to, I’ll go off and come back to you when I do have the answers.

I have a personal/technical blog at http://scarygliders.net , on which I offer technical tutorials on varying subjects to do with Linux and Windows.

I also write open source software, and currently have two published projects and another soon to come.
